A digital drawing of what Sharing Spaces Kitchen will likely look like when it opens in 2011.

Sharing Spaces Kitchen will house a new Opportunity Center operated artisan bakery (named Opportunities Rising) and co-packing operation, and culinary courses by Southwest Tech. In addition, the kitchen will be available to entrepreneurs along with helpful small business services.

The new shared-use incubator kitchen will have a tremendous impact on the local economy. By playing a key processing and packaging role with existing local food cooperatives, Sharing Spaces Kitchen will be a crucial component to developing a sustainable local food economy. This will not only benefit local food growers and buyers with a high quality product, but also the local economy in general as a far greater percentage of each dollar spent on local food stays local compared to food from traditional distribution systems. In addition, Sharing Spaces Kitchen will help launch new local businesses and products with it’s business incubator service, Opportunity Knocks. Local food entrepreneurs will have access to important resources that will help them create, manage, market, and distribute their own product(s).

Fresh, high-quality local breads will also come from Sharing Spaces Kitchen’s resident bakery, The Local Oven. With a planned storefront in downtown Prairie du Chien, Opportunities Rising will provide consumers with great tasting, fresh baked breads and pastries featuring as many locally sourced ingredients as possible.
